Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana (GSK)

Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls in grades K-12.  With programs for girls from coast to coast and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance for wonderful opportunities by creating a safe space where girls can try new things, develop a range of skills, take on leadership roles, and just be themselves, while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership. GSUSA is proud of its over 100-year relationship with the Catholic Church and is pleased that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has formally defined their Relationship with the Catholic Church.

Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana (GSK) has a strong tradition of Catholic girls participating in Girl Scouting from Archdiocesan schools and parishes (map), along with Catholic girls attending private and public schools. In 2016 the Archdiocese of Louisville (ArchLou) added Scouting as a Ministry within the Office of Youth and Young Adults. The ArchLou Catholic Committee on Scouting was then formed, and two GSK appointed adult volunteers currently serve on this committee.

The Archdiocese has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Council in a Memorandum of Understanding that states all troop leadership must comply with Safe Environment requirements in addition to GS registration, completion of a Code of Conduct agreement and training.  Once a leader is registered, they will be assigned an online portal to complete the background check and required Child Protection Training.

Annually, on GS Sunday in March, GSK Catholic Girl Scouts hosts a Ceremony at the Cathedral of the Assumption for girls and adults who earned their Religious Awards that year.  Click here for current information regarding the Religious Award programs and the next Awards Ceremony.
